Broken Boundaries

Chapter One

by Amy Masters

cr2

The realisation suddenly dawned on me when I woke up. I was in a psychiatric ward. The events of the previous night were just a blur. The admission process had been intimidating, lengthy and intrusive and I was tired and scared. I was in a dormitory with three strangers, an alien environment in which I didn’t belong. Confused and tangled thoughts were rushing through my mind. What was I doing here? How on earth had I ended up in this place? I’d known about it all my life- it was the place for ‘mad people’ and was to be feared and avoided, I didn’t belong here. I felt as if I had lost everything – my career, my fiancé, my future, even the motivation to live.

Meeting For Survivors

"Our all female group meets once every two months, usually on a Friday afternoon. Our next meeting will be our sixth and we have had some really positive feedback. Some of us find it difficult to talk to family and friends about the abuse we have suffered, so having somewhere to go that is completely confidential with people who have suffered in a similar way is extremely comforting. We are all at different stages in our recovery, which is helpful as we share information that has helped us along the way.

If you have been abused by a person in a position of trust you are welcome to join our group, our next meeting is October 2nd 2009 please contact Karen at survivors08@aol.com for further details."

Run by Survivors for Survivors.

GSCC may issue guidance on sexual boundaries with users
01 June 2009

The General Social Care Council may produce guidance on the professional boundaries between social workers and service users following two major research projects. The GSCC is using its research, which looked at professional boundaries from the perspective of social workers and of people who use services, to “explore a range of practical support measures, of which guidance is one”.
